This past weekend was the final MTB race of 2013. Iceman is a great event to go test some late season fitness and take part in one of the biggest one day North American bike races of the season. It’s like a mini Sea Otter Classic but a lot colder, way more north, and in November.
In terms of numbers it’s huge, 5000+ people all there for the same reasons…. 1) Race bikes 2) Have some fun!
Lots of rain in the days leading up to the race, although, with northern Michigan’s sandy soil it wasn’t an issue. On race day the course was like a highway- best conditions I’ve ever seen at Iceman. Every race I attend I have high aspirations for myself, it doesn’t matter how small or how big, I always go out to do as well as possible. Any athlete knows that the off-season is an evil necessary…… and with that comes lack of fitness and overall feeling out of shape. My finish was 5th place which I wasn’t overly joyed with but at the same time its not that bad considering. Thanks to my team Trek Factory Racing for another great event, the organizers and fans that make Iceman what it is.
Also thank you to Ray Waxham (the genius from Trek Race Shop) for all the photos.
